Spring Pond Cleaning

What do I need to do to get ready?

We need an active water faucet and GFCI outdoor power source in close proximity to the pond to perform the cleaning. We also require all pets are restrained and other safety obstructions are appropriately addressed prior to the visit. Please see our service terms for complete information preparing for service.

Can I book a specific date and time for my pond cleaning?

North Shore Waterscapes cleans over 250 ponds each season all over Boston’s north shore. Due to the scope of our spring pond cleaning operation and limitations of our schedule, pond cleanings are scheduled based upon location, size, fish, amongst other factors to ensure we are able to attend to everyone’s needs during the busy spring season. If special circumstances prevent you from receiving service at the estimated time provided, please contact us to discuss alternate arrangements.

Do you completely drain the pond?

Our spring pond cleaning involves a complete draining of the pond. This is the only way we are able to thoroughly remove sludge and waste from your pond.

Do you get all the sludge and leaves out?

Our pond cleaning service is comprehensive; we remove as much pond waste as possible including but not limited to sludge, leaves, sticks, and decaying organic matter.

What happens to my fish during the cleaning?

Your fish are temporarily stored in an oversized holding tank during the cleaning where they will be acclimated to the post-cleaning conditions of the pond. I have a UV light in my pond.

Can you check and replace the bulb if needed?

We completely service your UV unit during the pond cleaning (upon enrollment in filter/media replacement services). Generally, we recommend replacing UV bulbs on a yearly basis for best clarity results. We will also evaluate the condition of the power supply, quartz sleeve and O-rings and replace worn or broken components as necessary.

I think I have a leak in my pond. Can you look for it during the pond cleaning?

Locating a leak can often be a very difficult and involved task. Due to the limitations of our spring schedule, we are unfortunately unable to comprehensively search for leaks at the time of the cleaning. If you have leak concerns, please consider scheduling a separate leak diagnosis appointment with us in the summer season.

Will you hook up my pump and filters?

We will hook up and test your pump and filtration units during the cleaning provided they are accessible to us at the time of service.

What do you do to treat the pond for chlorine and chloramine when you refill it?

We treat every pond we return fish to with CrystalClear Vanish+, a chlorine and chloramine treatment with natural stress reducer. We always treat for the entire volume of the pond so you won’t need to worry about dechlorinating later.

Will you refill my pond and start the pump?

We will refill your pond enough to safely re-introduce aquatic life (at least 1’). The pond owner is responsible for completing the refilling process and plugging in all pumps/filters upon completion unless alternate arrangements are made in advance. We estimate your labor costs based on this understanding to help keep service prices as low as possible. Any refilling services provided will incur an extra charge.
