Spring Pond Cleaning
What do I need to do to get ready?
An active water source and a GFCI-protected outdoor electrical outlet must be available in close proximity to the pond to complete the cleaning service.
For safety purposes, all pets must be properly restrained and any potential site hazards or obstructions must be addressed prior to our arrival.
Please refer to our Service Preparation Guide and Service Terms for complete details regarding site preparation requirements.
Can I book a specific date and time for my pond cleaning?
North Shore Waterscapes serves more than 300 water gardening enthusiasts each season throughout Boston’s North Shore. Due to the scale of our spring cleaning operations and the demands of the season, cleanings are scheduled strategically based on factors such as geographic location, pond size, fish load, and overall scope of work. This approach allows us to operate efficiently while meeting the needs of all clients during our busiest time of year.
If special circumstances prevent you from accommodating service within the estimated time frame provided, please contact us to discuss alternative arrangements.
Do you completely drain the pond?
Our spring pond cleaning service includes a complete drainage of the pond. This process is necessary to ensure the thorough removal of accumulated sludge, debris, and organic waste, allowing us to properly restore water quality and overall pond health.
Do you get all the sludge and leaves out?
Our Spring Pond Cleaning service is comprehensive and designed to remove accumulated pond waste, including but not limited to sludge, leaves, sticks, and decaying organic material, to restore optimal water quality and overall system health.
What happens to my fish during the cleaning?
During the cleaning process, your fish are temporarily housed in an appropriately sized holding tank, where they are carefully maintained and gradually acclimated to the refreshed pond conditions prior to reintroduction.
Can you check and replace my UV bulb if needed?
We perform a complete service of your UV unit during the pond cleaning (with enrollment in our filter/media replacement program). For optimal water clarity and performance, we generally recommend replacing UV bulbs annually. During service, we also inspect the power supply, quartz sleeve, and O-rings, replacing any worn or damaged components as needed to ensure proper operation and reliability.
I think I have a leak in my pond. Can you look for it during the pond cleaning?
Leak detection can be a complex and time-intensive process, often requiring systematic evaluation, controlled testing, and careful monitoring to accurately identify the source. Due to the volume and logistical demands of our Spring Pond Cleaning schedule, we are unable to conduct comprehensive leak investigations during routine cleaning appointments unless alternate arrangements are agreed upon in advance.
If you suspect a leak, we strongly recommend scheduling a dedicated leak diagnosis service during the summer season, when we can allocate the appropriate time and resources to thoroughly assess and address the issue.
Will you hook up my pump and filters?
We will reconnect and test your pump and filtration systems during the cleaning, provided they are accessible at the time of service.
What do you do to treat the pond for chlorine and chloramine when you refill it?
Upon reintroduction of fish, we treat the entire pond with CrystalClear Vanish+, a chlorine and chloramine neutralizer formulated with a natural stress-reducing additive. The treatment is applied based on the full volume of the pond to ensure complete dechlorination, eliminating the need for any additional follow-up treatment.
Will you refill my pond and start the pump?
We will refill the pond to a level sufficient to safely reintroduce aquatic life (a minimum of approximately one foot of water).
As outlined in the service terms approved prior to scheduling, the pond owner is responsible for completing the refilling process and reconnecting all pumps and filtration systems following our departure, unless alternative arrangements have been made in advance.
Our labor estimates are structured with this understanding in order to maintain efficient scheduling and keep service pricing as competitive as possible. Should you require full refilling or system restart services, they can be provided upon request and will be billed accordingly.
