Spring Pond Cleanings are most effective when conducted at the beginning of the season; however, they remain available throughout the majority of the water gardening season should you find yourself starting late or in need of a re-clean at any time. During a Spring Pond Cleaning, North Shore Waterscapes will:
Completely drain the water garden. Fish are carefully removed as the water level drops and are temporarily stored in an oversized holding tank. The holding tank is aerated and slowly acclimated with fresh water in preparation for the post-cleaning return of your fish to the water garden.
Inspect your fish for signs of disease or sickness.
Remove leaves, sludge, excessive string algae, and organic debris from the water garden.
Trim aquatic vegetation including any overgrown, yellowing/browning or dead plants.
Adjust rockwork and/or gravel that has shifted during the off-season.
Service underwater lighting system (upon advance request).
Power wash, shine, and thoroughly rinse stonework.
Install the pump and filtration medias (if provided) and test for performance and visible connection leaks.
Treat the clean water garden with a dechlorinating agent for its complete volume as it refills.
Refill the pond to a safe level for aquatic life (at least 1’) and return the fish upon completion.
Assess the overall health and condition of the water garden and provide recommendations as necessary.
